***AUTHORS NOTE: This is a NON-CANON STORY! This has nothing to do with the events of BFD and will not impact the main storyline in ANY WAY! It's a little fun short I came up with in about two minutes. I hope you like it!***

ADRIAN

You know, sometimes even wizards make mistakes.

Even super powerful ones such as Mesusuki. You know the expression "the bigger they are the harder they fall"? Well, it kind of applies here - the more powerful you are, the worse your mistakes get. And this story is a prime example.

Citivas was bare when Kade and I arrived. I didn't see anybody around. Granted, it was pretty late at night. Kade and I flew down towards the room that housed Mesusuki. I landed.

"I wonder what he called us here for," I said. "Especially this late."

"I know," said Kade, staring at the large wooden door. "It's really weird... he is a pretty weird guy, but..."

I raised my claws and knocked here times on the door. Almost immediately the door swung open, and the familiar face of a Japanese map appeared. "Come on in," Mesusuki said. We followed his instructions and stepped into Mesusuki's small apartment.

"So why did you want us here?" I asked.

Mesusuki swung open his fridge. We heard the sound of glass clanging, and Mesusuki stepped back, holding a tiny bottle of some red liquid.

"New potion," he said. "It's supposed to let you transform at will into anything and everything. Hasn't been tested quite yet, but I figured you guys might wanna see it."

"That does sound pretty dang cool," Kade remarked. "How long did it take you to develop?"

"Less than a month. I'm getting better at my craft." Mesusuki smiled. "I'm still not sure that it works, though... there's no way to know for sure what it'll do until we test it."

Out of nowhere, loud music started to play. Kade and I crouched down with our claws over our earholes. Even with my hearing limited, I could still make out the tune as "Shake it Off" by Taylor Swift.

"Where is that coming from?!" Kade yelled over the resonating bass that shook the entire room.

Mesusuki withdrew something out of his pocket and held it to the air. Taylor suddenly stopped and another voice came from the air.

"Mesusuki!"

"Quentin! Thanks for calling," Mesusuki said with a grin.

"No problem. Hey, I've been thinking about that compound-"

"Potion."

"-Yeah, that. Anyways, I was thinking I could come down and, you know, test it for ya."

"Really?! You'd do that?!"

"Oh, sure! It'll give me an excuse to get away from the house for a while."

"Sweet! When should I expect you?"

"Probably a minute or so. Gotta tell the wife."

"Alright. Till then."

"Bye."

Mesusuki turned back to us. "That was one of my old friends. From before the whole "Ombra" incident. He'll apparently be testing my new potion for me."

"But why the whole, you know, blaring music thing just to make a phone call?" Kade asked.

"It's just a really loud ringtone." Mesusuki smiled. "All we can do is wait now. He should be here... In about forty seconds."

We stood in awkward silence for about twenty seconds before Mesusuki spoke again. "So... you guys been doing anything lately?"

"Not much," I answered.

"Well, I DID get an Xbox One," said Kade.

"Eh, I think PS4 is better," Mesusuki replied, shrugging.

"Are you kidding me?" Kade laughed. "Xbox is-"

"Kade," I stopped him before he could continue. "We don't need to be here for hours hearing your Xbox versus PlayStation rant."

Kade sighed. "Alright," he said, disappointed.

A loud crack echoed from the center of the room, and with a flash of purple light, a short man appeared, clutching a small cane. He wore light purple robes with a beanie on the top of his head. He looked rather old.

"Hey Quentin! So nice of you to drop by," Mesusuki said, walking up and shaking the man's hand. Mesusuki was nearly a foot taller than the little guy. It was a funny size comparison, really.

"Any time, old friend," said Quentin. He turned his head towards us. His eyes widened and he staggered back out of shock.

"G-good grief, Mesu," he said, clutching his chest and hyperventilating. "You could've told me you had dragons in here with you!"

"It's alright; they won't bite," Mesusuki (or "Mesu"? I don't know...) said.

"Probably," said Kade jokingly. "Allow my to introduce myself. I'm Kade. The maroon one."

"I'm Adrian," I said. "The golden one."

"Pleasure to meet you two," Quentin said, still breathing heavily. "That was... quite the surprise."

"Yeah, that often happens to people when they see us," I chuckled.

"So are you ready to test my potion?" Mesusuki asked Quentin.

Quentin laughed hysterically. "Of course not! Nobody's ever truly prepared to drink one of YOUR concoctions!"

Kade and I looked at each other, giving looks that only we could understand at the moment. Of course he wouldn't be ready. We weren't ready to take a Mesusuki potion when we did.

"Well, are you prepared for the worst?" Mesusuki pried. He must've been eager to get into the test.

"As much as I'll ever be." Quentin grabbed a chair and sat. Mesusuki gave him a small vial of the fluid we'd seen earlier and grabbed a pencil and notebook.

"Let's do this," Mesusuki said. He was trying not to bounce up and down with excitement.

Quentin held the vial up to his eyes. "Looks pretty stable," he observed. "Not carbonated. Hmm." He uncorked the vial. "Here's to short people everywhere!" He said, then, smiling, he downed the fluid. "Erm... Probably could use a little bit more sugar. It tastes a tad bitter. Also, it needs more Gammasroot powder. There needs to be some 'zing', y'know?"

"Could you at least see if the potion effect worked?" Mesusuki pleaded, frantically scratching at the paper, writing notes that I'm sure would be illegible, judging on how fast the wizard was writing.

"Don't worry, friend," Quentin said. "You'll get your results soon enough. Now let's see... what to turn into..."

Quentin closed his eyes and sat still. He winced after a few seconds, and then he began to change.

First, his hands began to crack and shiver. His pinkie merged with the finger next to it, and his entire hand glazed over in bright green scales. They spread up his arms, which bulged with new muscle. I almost instantly knew what he was becoming.

"Urgh..." Quentin groaned. His spine suddenly cracked and snapped, shooting his hight upwards. His beanie fell off as his robes melted into more green scales that went across his chest and started up his neck. His legs bulged with muscle, shoes tearing as claws made their way through the fabric.

Quentin's mouth and nose merged into one and began to push out, forming an all-too-familiar shape. His new snout opened and he let out a cry as his gums grew large fangs.

His fingers had merged together to form four total digits, which were now sprouting claws. He arched his back as two appendages grew from his shoulder blades, growing exponentially as they formed wings. Quentin sat, panting and grunting as a tail made its way out from behind him.

Quentin stood up a few seconds later. He was a massive, emerald-green dragon. He was a few inches taller than the both of us. "Well, I guess I'm not so short anymore," he said with a chuckle.

"Woah..." Kade said, staring at Quentin, who was now several inches taller than the both of us. "That's amazing."

"It's a complete success!" Mesusuki exclaimed, tossing the notebook and pencil into the air and starting to dance. We all stared at him with questioning looks on our faces.

It took a solid minute of silence for Mesusuki to stop getting down. Eventually he stopped and looked over at us. "Sorry," he said, picking up his notebook. "I've been trying to perfect this for more than a month now... at least it finally worked!"

"I have to admit, it was pretty great," Quentin said. "Could've been a little more... painless, but... it worked!"

"I'll just have people take Ibuprofen or something before drinking this." Mesusuki jotted down a few more things in his notebook before setting it down on his messy countertop.

"Well, thanks for this opportunity, Mesu." Quentin smiled. "I'd better get going. Maybe I can scare my wife like this..." He bent over to pick up his beanie, then snapped his fingers and he disappeared in a flash of purple light.

"Ah, what a great guy," Mesusuki remarked, starting to sort through his fridge again. "You guys can go now. I mean, unless you want some of the stuff I gave to Quentin."

Kade and I exchanged surprised looks. "You're saying you'll give us some of your potion?!" Kade asked.

"Of course," Mesusuki replied, looking out from the fridge. "I've got tons of it left over. I've got no problem with giving you some."

"Adrian - we could have our human forms back!" Kade exclaimed. "Wouldn't it be awesome to be able to go back to being a human for a while?"

"Um..." I started, not quite sure what to say. After all, my time as a human HAD been a complete lie.

"Well, I'll have some," Kade said excitedly. I didn't say anything while Mesusuki gave a small vial of the red liquid to Kade, who was nearly jumping with joy. "Thanks, Mesusuki!"

"You're very welcome. And don't forget Ibuprofin," Mesusuki replied, turning to me. "You want some?"

I really hadn't thought about what I would do if I could ever get back to my human form. I was actually a born a dragon, after all...

"I... I'm sorry, but I'll have to decline," I said uncomfortably. "I think this form suits me best."

"Well, alright." Mesusuki sighed disappointedly. "If it's not for you, it's not for you."

Kade stared at me with an expression of pure shock. "You'd really rather stay a dragon?!"

"I was born this way," I retorted. "I feel like I'm meant to stay like this."

"Suit yourself," said Kade. We both left Mesusuki's apartment and went back home.

I had never expected to receive a distress call almost exactly one hour later. I kept a phone on my bedside table, and fifty-eight minutes later it went off. The noise was so loud for a minute I thought it'd wake up my parents and sister. I scrambled to pick it up and answer it.

"Thomas residence," I said into the phone. I hadn't looked at the caller ID, so I had no idea who I was speaking to. Heck, at this late at night, I could be speaking to someone from China. Luckily, that mystery was solved fairly quickly.

"Adrian! Oh, thank the gods! Get Kade over here now! Bring his potion! It's an emergency!" The line went dead before I could respond.

<Really? I've got to sneak out again?!> I thought. <Ah, well. What kind of emergency could this be?>

You know how hard it is to walk silently through a quiet house as a 300-pound mythical beast on two legs? I'll let you figure that out. The stairs were especially difficult, as we had wood ones, and the boards creaked whenever I stepped. Somehow I ended up at the bottom of the stairs and I hurried as quietly as possible to the sliding glass back door.

Now came the real problem - getting Kade. He slept like a rock. He always had, even before he'd been turned into a scaly maroon version of himself. I flew down near Kade's bedroom window, and I tapped the glass. It took a while of tapping with varying degrees of volume, but eventually I was able to get Kade to stir. Once he saw me through the window, he rolled his eyes and came to open it.

"What now?" Kade said, obviously miffed.

"Mesusuki needs our help again," I explained. "It's an 'emergency' according to him. He needs you to bring your potion with him, too."

"Seriously?..." Kade mumbled, shaking his head and heading through his room to the door. I flew around to the front of his house and waited by the front door. Half a minute later, Kade opened the door, clutching his sample of the potion in his claws.

"Alright, let's go. This better be the last time I sacrifice sleep for Mesusuki."

"I sure hope it will be," I replied, turning around and taking flight. A few minutes later we entered Citivas and we headed down for Mesusuki's apartment. We didn't have the chance to knock before the door was thrown open.

"Get inside!" Mesusuki shouted, ushering us into his living room. He slammed the door behind him and turned to Kade. I decided not to ask how he knew we were out there so quickly.

"Where's your potion?!" he interrogated Kade.

"I...uh - it's right here," Kade replied, holding the small vial out. Both of us were extremely confused as to why Mesusuki was acting so paranoid.

Mesusuki snatched it out of Kade's claws and took in to the fridge, chucking it in with the sound of glass clinging.

"You know how glad I am that you didn't drink that?" Mesusuki said quietly.

"What was wrong with it?" I asked.

Mesusuki flicked his hand towards the ground. "See for yourself," he said. A large body appeared on the ground.

Kade's eyes widened at the sight. Mine did, too - it was a big, green dragon, obviously the body of Quentin. But there was something off about his scales - they didn't seem to shine like mine or Kade's did.

"He teleported back here and just collapsed," Mesusuki explained. "I knew it had to be the potion."

I walked towards the body on the ground, knelt down, and touched the scales. My claws almost instantly recoiled - there was a thin layer of fur covering the scales.

"What in the-?" I said, jumping back up.

Mesusuki turned to me. "He's apparently turning into another animal. The potion was supposed to let you change into anything at will, but I guess the 'will' part was taken out. His cells and molecules are changing too rapidly. He's fallen ill because of this. I don't know why this happened, but I may have an idea... and a cure. It's an oldie, sure, but it could do the job."

"Let's get it, then!" Kade exclaimed.

"I second that," I said.

"Just so you know, if we get this wrong, Quentin could end up in even more trouble. Understood? If he dies, you both have to face his wife's wrath with me. Clear?"

"Yeah," Kade and I said in unison.

"Well then, it's time we make a new potion!" Mesusuki said, clapping his hands and rubbing them together. "Kade, I need you to get me some sugar and a bottle of NyQuil. Adrian, you get me a tree leaf - doesn't matter what tree - and a potato."

"Wait," I said, starting to chuckle. "A potato?"

"Potatoes have many magical properties," Mesusuki replied. "Just go get what I told you. I'll figure the rest out."

"Alright," I said, following Kade out of the room. I figured I'd get the potato first, since it'd be easier to hold on to while flying. Kade and I split up, and I flew to my house. I slid open the back door and stepped quietly inside. My mom kept the potatoes in the pantry, just a few steps away from the fridge.

I made my way over to the tall pantry door and opened it. After looking for a few seconds, I found the large bag of spuds. I grabbed one of them and hurried back out the door, shutting it behind me and trying to make as little noise as possible.

Flying back to the hill Citivas' entrance was located in, I decided to grab my tree leaf. I flew down to the tops of several trees. Their green leaves swayed as I passed by. I picked one of the larger ones and headed back to Citivas.

Kade wasn't at Mesusuki's apartment yet, so I gave the ingredients to Mesusuki and watched. The fur growing on Quentin's body was starting to get bushier. It seemed to be loosing its green color as well.

Mesusuki had a large bowl set on his oven. The liquid inside was boiling. It sizzled as Mesusuki dropped the leaf inside. He hurriedly grabbed a knife and cut the potato into several chunks, dumping each in individually. The concoction sizzled and bubbled even more.

"Just asking," I said. "Why all of the ingredients? A potato? NyQuil? What do they do?"

"I've already told you about the potato," Mesusuki said, turning the stove up. "The NyQuil has a chemical that stabilizes this certain potion. The leaf is for Mother Nature's blessing, as well as a symbol of healing. The sugar is for taste, so that the bitterness won't kill Quentin. It's what I should've added more of in the last potion, as well as another ingredient..."

"You sure the sugar won't screw up the potion?" I asked, genuinely interested.

"Of course not!" Mesusuki responded, turning away from the oven. "Sugar has no magical properties. It's just a sweetener. Now where the devil is-?!"

Kade burst through the door, clutching a box and a bottle. "Got them!" he exclaimed.

"Great, throw them over here. We may be running out of time!" Mesusuki said. His hypothesis was looking to be more and more correct as he poured half the box of sugar into his mix. Quentin's snout was shrinking and getting paler, and he was starting to convulse.

"Hurry!" I shouted.

"I'm trying!" Mesusuki replied, mixing his potion. "There! Done!" he said, throwing the spoon he used to mix the potion away. "Get it in him now!"

Mesusuki grabbed a cup, dipped it in the potion, and gave it to Kade. "Go!"

Kade ran over and force-fed Quentin the potion. Immediately Quentin stopped twitching. The fur and scales were starting to recede as well. "It's working," Kade said, standing up. "We did it!"

"Oh, gods," Mesusuki sighed, burying his hands in his face. "I almost killed my friend today, and I think I know why. I forgot talon powder... it acts like the chemical in the NyQuil, stabilizing the effects... how could I have been so stupid?!"

"Hey, you did great with the healing potion," I remarked. "Quentin's already turning back to his normal self."

"Without any potion effects at all," Mesusuki remarked. "Okay, you two can leave now. Please do. I should be the only one here when he wakes up. I need to formally apologize to him. Thank goodness you didn't drink that, Kade."

"Yeah, that would've been a disaster," Kade laughed.

"Well, we'll go now. We need sleep," I said.

"Always a good reason to cut social interaction short. Bye!" Mesusuki said.

We left Mesusuki's apartment and flew back to our houses. Man, what a weird night. I hoped it didn't get weirder. Then again, how weird could sleep get? I flung myself on top of my bed and fell right asleep, looking forward to tomorrow.
